When Mother's DONE with Summer

The kids are outside playing

on this hot and sweaty day.

The cats are inside panting

in the A.C. where they lay.

Mother is not so silly

to think summer has moved on,

but there's been one less thunderstorm

so the change has now begun!

The kids are back in school now,

so the sea-side days are over.

In the shade one almost can

relax in beds of clover.

The spring's mockingbirds have grown

out of their baby down,

and summer garden harvests

crop up all over town.

This is excuse for mother

to rummage in ev'ry drawer,

and soon bright plastic pumpkins

are rolling across the floor.

Paper red and yellow leaves

are taped up to inspire,

while spicy scented candles

share ambiance through fire.

Inside autumn has fallen

despite the Florida heat,

and Mother sips some cider

which she's seasoned extra sweet.
