Somewhere, Elsewhere, is Outside

When illness or injury or surgical recovery

Trap me, locked up, gloomy, inside,

Somewhere within my heart is still happy

Because somewhere, elsewhere, is outside.

A roof is nice, and walls are okay,

and I suppose a door is quite tolerable...

But all of this waiting and healing and chaffing

Will be long, long behind me as soon as I'm able.

I'll behave like I must, don't you chide me.

I'll sit still and I won't complain or shout.

But the moment these stitches are removed,

You won't find me, because I will be OUT!
