Victory from the Grave

The night was long and sleepless.
Despair enfolded the scattered flock
As they huddled in dark recesses
And their Savior was entombed behind the rock.
Shock which makes the blood flow cold
And grief which chokes and stifles breath...
These are the usurping companions
Which plagued the witnesses of Jesus' death.
Did they pray from weary hearts
Or did their tongues loosen at all?
Could they meditate on his words
Or could all they see was their master's fall?
How gloomy were his friends
As Jesus "laid" there in the tomb.
But he did not lay there politely.
In Heaven and Hell, he was making room!
He wrought chaos in Satan's armies;
He opened heaven and widened Hell.
He stole victory from the hands of his enemies
And kept a promise to the thief he did tell.
While the disciples ached in stillness,
Their Savior worked in unfathomable ways.
While they shriveled in fear and in sadness,
There was a lot Jesus got done in three days.
Destruction, creation, and restoration...
Victory and resurrection!
Doubt and terror were humiliated
For those waiting were under His protection.
How short and swift are the days we call life!
This is just ground to harvest something better.
Endure the hardships that come from the wait
And be restored by His Kingdom forever!
