The Weeping Raven of Raven Cliff

What heartbreak or calamity has made the raven weep?

For what grief does, down its face, the rushing river sweep?

It's round eye wide and waking, never let to close,

Bears a loneliness of gaze that only the raven knows.

Perhaps it is not sorrow which wets the raven's face.

Could there be contentedness in this solitary place?

In the solemn greenness where the other blackbirds flit around,

Maybe the raven cries for joy in their cacophony of sound.
