Spring and Winter's Dalliance

Birdsong mingles with the sound

Of the mischievous brook.

Icy wind tickles branches

Undressed by winter's look.

Fallen leaves strike tenderly

Against the swollen ground.

River water overwhelms

The long pine which has been downed.

Memories of morning frost

Are soon spirited away

Like a sparkling virgin veil

Dissolved in the warmth of day.

Winter and spring's solution,

Yet but a brief dalliance,

Brings trembles to the forest

In an awakening dance.
