Learning to Fly

What if you could take flight?

Would you rise up to the challenge?

With that goal in your sight,

Would you give it all of your might?

It takes blood sweat and tears,

This magical potion to fly;

It takes facing your fears,

And it takes hard training for years.

You must breathe calm and deep

Through every loss and the falls.

Persevere trials steep.

Pride and memories you keep.

Sometimes your feet get cold.

Compete against only yourself.

Let your own wings unfold.

Fly for the thrill, not just the gold.

And so whether you place,

Or whether you at least showed up,

This is your special space.

You learn to fly at your own pace.
