Lake Fog

When the sun breaks through the fog,
It glows at first just like a dream.
From the night-cooled lake water
Arises a shroud of white steam.
This part of the sleeping world
Blinks it's eyes like it's just been kissed,
And with a yawn and a stretch
The lake shore shrugs away the mist.
Higher the sun keeps rising,
Casting light on the water's face.
Filled with wakefulness and flight,
The shorebirds rush to keep apace.
The gentle twill of birdsong
And the splash of fish tails trailing
Accentuate the delight for
Morning's delicate unveiling.
