I thank God,

My parents trained me up the way I should go.

So as I grew

I did not for long depart from it, oh no.

I thank God,

I wasn't shouldered with the curse of indecision.

So as I grew

I didn't learn to forget about my Lord and trust my own vision.

Oh, dear God,

How carelessly we let our foolish hearts separate our children from you.

And as they grow

We tell them it's okay to abandon church, open their minds to hell and depart from you.

I thank God

My parents drug me to church and didn't say I didn't have to go.

'Cause as I grew

I learned to hold a much deeper respect and love for the Savior I've gotten to know.

I thank God

My parents gave me the example of a consistent pursuit of God.

So as I grew

I can lead my children down the narrow road my family's always plod.
