Duality of the Space Coast

One second concrete

Next second marsh.

One moment forest lush,

The next moment pavement harsh.

Cookie cutter neighborhoods

They like to call preserves -

Named like goodwill to the earth

That none of us deserves.

Protected land all set aside

For nesting birds who need to fly,

Then rockets that send shockwaves

That knock whole flocks out of the sky.

I want to see the bright stars too.

I do want us to land on Mars.

But I can't help but look around

At the planet that's still ours.
