Childhood Memories of Fall

As you walk up the street to school, the air is soft and moist and cool.

Last night's rain drips down from the eaves. You shuffle through the fallen leaves.

Fattening squirrels hide every nut. Neighbors' pumpkins are being cut.

You shiver through a sweeping chill. Not long 'til snow's on the sled hill.

You see your friends walking nearby. They breathe out clouds as they say 'hi'.

One friend has folded paper bats. One's mom has made you knitted hats.

You walk to school linked like a chain; Your hearts are warm against the rain.

Later tonight you'll trick or treat All the best houses on your street.

Childhood gets better every day. You hope it'll always be this way.
