An Honored Path

There is a path that few men face,

a lonely path that fewer face.

It's a solemn and a selfless road

for those of valor to behold.

A daring contract brave men sign,

that with the sting of death they dine.

Their earned reward, theirs not keep.

They take the path to honored sleep.

For Memorial Day

A modern disclaimer: Please note that I intend to honor both the men and the women who have given it all in the Armed Forces. It was a literary generalization to use the word "men" so as not to draw away from the rhythm or spirit of the poem with an excess of titles. We are all "mankind", and few have given the ultimate sacrifice. This is the message I intend to convey.
